What is Dengue ?

Some facts about Dengue:

Signs and Symptoms

Causes
Dengue hemorrhagic fever can occur when mosquito bites someone or they are exposed to blood infected with the its virus. Infected mosquitoes are the most common causes.
There are four different types of the dengue virus. Once you are infected with one of the viruses, you develop immunity to that virus for the rest of your life. However, this immunity will not probably protect you from the other viruses. It is possible to be infected with all four different types of the virus in your lifetime.
Repeated exposure to the virus can make it more likely that you will develop dengue hemorrhagic fever.
Diagnosing dengue fever can be difficult, because its signs and symptoms can be easily confused with those of other diseases — such as malaria, leptospirosis and typhoid fever.
Your doctor will likely ask about your medical and travel history. Be sure to describe international trips in detail, including the countries you visited and the dates, as well as any contact you may have had with mosquitoes.
Certain laboratory tests can detect evidence of the viruses, but test results usually come back too late to help direct treatment decisions.
